Was given some firewood(first and second slices from a saw mill). Oak. Decided to try and make something nicer looking.

Most folks considered those defects, I consider them character. Love that box!
I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left.

Just a few years ago a lot of that stuff was pitched in the fire. Now everybody seems to want it & there aren't enough knots in a tree to go around!

I like the spaulted and knotted stuff and let it talk to me.
You have seen some of my stuff here before I think.

Very nice work.

I use a trick I learned on a you tube video to fill in the holes sometimes...
Old Coffee grounds.
Yup, you can use them natural or dye them.
Then add a layer, some CT glue. A layer, some CT glue. Build it up and then sand flush. Works like a charm.

By the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

If it's a big void, coffee grounds into epoxy works faster.

It's wood not plastic laminate.
Seeing the changes, defects, bug holes, whatever, is only a reminder that it is real wood.
Some character is more visually appealing than other character, but I definitely like to keep it real.
Nice job with the boxes.

I agree...

I only fill in the really big ones that go thru the entire thickness of the wood, to make a piece usable.
I used it when I made my gunsmith box.
