I've never produced an item exactly to a published plan.  I sometimes study plans to see what construction methods they used, but the size of the item is always custom to a specific situation.  I get some reference dimensions from the Internet or by measuring furniture in my house or a store.

I'm learning to use the Internet more efficiently.  When I Google for "table height" , "cabinet dimensions", "bathroom fixtures" I get dimensions from forums, from manufactures's websites and from sellers of plans.  

I just found that by adding "Architectural standards" to the search I get a more authoritative bunch of numbers.

For example I added "architectural standards" to "toilet dimensions" and this popped up:



And when I did the same for "bathroom dimensions" I found this:


So, if you are not finding the standard dimensions you are looking for, add "Architectural standards.

My library on Long Island had that book (three or four volumes as I recall, and large format).  It is pretty expensive.  So I am sticking to the Internet.  But  the data from that sourse is the data that would be most reliable.
