These guys have 1.5" wide stuff in stock :
https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/...-Tape.html
I've spoken to a few people who do this sort of thing and they sometimes just use the pre-gummed paper tape, like the stuff used for package sealing.
Another source for 70mm (not quite 3") would be :

Thanks

Hi,
Paul Schurch used to offer wide paper tape for veneering on his
website. I've used it; it's an excellent tape. But he no longer has it listed. He does, however, note that you can call him or email him about tape and he'll see if he has what you need.
Otherwise, you could try
here. Could be the same as Schurch's.

Oakwood Veneeer Company shows tape upto 3" wide. I know they sell heat applied; I don't know if they sell water activated.

I just received some 2" (50 mm) 34 gram white cellulose veneer tape from VeneerSystems.com. I haven't had a chance to use it, however, it was recommended by Craig Thibodeau in his book "The Craft of Veneering". An excellent book by the way. Not to hijack the thread but if you're interested in veneer work you should check out his website, CTFineFurniture.com and his Instagram feed, CTFineFurniture.

Thanks for all the leads on finding wide gum tape. I will check them out.
Lonnie thanks for the link to Craig Thibodeau’s web site, great looking stuff.
