[attachment=25389]I've had this a number of years and it always has that smell that electrical motors make sometime. I think its ozone. I looked into the motor and notice some sparks coming from the brushes/commutator.
I pulled the brushes and there is lots of life left but they look like they are wearing a little oddly. One had a dark spot.
Also, I noticed that the safety brake does not always work. I think that this is just repulsion braking and is just caused when the motor is shut off.
I'd like to pull the motor and inspect things/clean the commutator. I wish there was a way to get a brush seating stone in there to help seat things better.
There are 4 screws that hold the motor on. There must be electrical connections there as well.
Is it fairly straight forward to just remove the 4 bolts and then see what else to disconnect?
Any advice would be appreciated.
