Not sure if need part #6 , #7, or #8 since don’t have that center just by looking at it #7 screws into #6 would take #6 to big box or place like fasten all see if they have a screw for you. I would e-mail nova folks for size threads or if could send me a replacement screw. Good luck!

It's part #6 that I need, so that's the problem. I have the screw, but I've lost the barrel shaped bit that slids into the center and accepts the screw. Very frustrating.

I just looked at mine and it has a #2 Morse taper on each end as well as a threaded hole on one end. I suspect the only place you will find one is Nova. If you want to make one that only has a taper on one end, you could get a #2 taper extension (they're typically soft) and cut off the male part. Put in your lathe spindle then drill and tap it. Finally, cut the small end of the taper off to fit in the center, matching the dimensions of the other points that fit the center. That would not allow you to use the cone center though. For that, you have to have the double taper.

There's enough center left to make one out of wood or delrin. What I'd do.

Better to follow the leader than the pack. Less to step in.

Could you drill and tap a Shopsmith 505603 tailstock chuck arbor? You will have to cut the small end of the taper off but that's easy. I'd also cut off the 5/8" straight shaft before drilling and tapping.

I ended up turning a tenon for the piece I was doing and inserting that. I ordered a used live center off of eBay, so I'll have a 2nd center and a bunch of replacement parts. |
