What can I say?    It's sentimental:  this broom was bought right before I got my first house.    Years later, the hollow metal "stick" broke off, flush with the brush head.

I thought a wood adapter, tapered on both ends, might do the trick for a repair.
Rather than putting wood between lathe centers, I just started free-hand shaving a suitable dowel.   I would test-fit, observe the marks/impressions, shave, and repeat.

It actually works... and if it loosens up one day, I'll just ram the tapers further down
