Chisel rack....install it bark side up or down

I was futzing around in the shop Sunday and I made this chisel rack.  (Everyone likes the exposed bark look these days to I figger, "What the heck".)

It will sit to the right of my benchtop and I initially planned on installing it bark side down, but then you really can't see the bark unless you squat down, and I'm getting to the age when a squat could mean an impromptu trip to the can!!! 


Bark side up shows off the bark (duh!!!) but the "shelf"  (not the correct word, but you get the gist) isn't as wide.  But I doubt I'd ever use it.


What's the consensus??

Personal preference.  Bark side down looks more refined, bark side up more rustic.  Which sort are you?

bark side up will collect more dust !

It looks kinda dark where you have it. If you want bark on it, I'd put it up so you can enjoy it.  Or keep it flexible. Bark up this week and bark down next.

In my opinion, I like bark side down. It gives a hint of the natural edge look without overpowering. Plus, it won't collect as much dust/dirt in the hard to clean rough bark.

If you like the rustic look and it matches your shop, do it up.

These are all just my opinions, of course. Cool concept!

I like the bark side up, but it's probably a lot more practical down. The dust collecting part mentioned above might be a little annoying, so I'd put it down.

I would not have anything in my shop that has bark on it. 

I might build something with a "live edge" but I think bark should only be left on firewood or log cabins(maybe). 

Just my opinion, your shop your choice.

Thought about that, but it was a piece of scrap cherry that I didn't throw away and thought, "I wonder what I could make with that?"
