Friend lost a big tree to old age. White oak family— smallend ~3’, big end 4+, 25’ long ( all eyeball measurements)

It was in a corner lot owned by a “senior citizen” who is a good friend. She has owened the lot for over 30 years and says no nails have been driven into it in that time. (but who knows)

Company charged her $5K to drop it and remove branches; don’t know what they will want to remove trunk. I don’t think they’ll look for a mill

Anyone know of a portable mill near there?

I’m at my BIL’s place today but we leave tomorrow but I can pass any info to him

Look the butt over for black spots. Any metal fragments, the stain travels downward.
Call Woodmizer. They have a sawmillers list they give out.

That log would yield about 2000 bf of wood according to the Doyle scale.  It would take some big equipment to move it, however, as it will likely weigh around 16000 lbs.  Gonna take a heck of a portable mill to handle that.

They have big ones. Best to cut into shorter lengths though.......

Log looks clean except for rot on one side

Good candidate for a swingblade mill

Gotta be someone who knows somebody!

Not sure how far away this guy is? Runs a Lucas mill that can handle that size log where it's laying.

That would be the perfect solution.

WOW round here that would be elder abuse, 500 would be a much more reasonable price and they didn't even cover the cost of removal? WOW

Can't really comment without seeing the tree and the site. But a ~4ft dia oak on a street corner isn't going to be a straight forward "Bubba and his chainsaw" job. Power lines, traffic control (it was almost certain to be out over two streets) etc.

I'm currently cleaning up a tree like that in a friends garden. Luckily it was able to be felled with the help of a professional logger, a long cable and a tractor, but the mess that needed to be cleaned up was pretty daunting.
