I think Steve's (Bibliophile) and the PDF from Pop Wood are the same design. It's pretty standard, and about the nicest I would make; and I obsess over details. Got your scratch stock too.
If you are hardpressed, snap a broken or dull bit if necessary. They drill holes for a while.

The Pop Woodworking article is very good. It's a nice gauge. It's a little easier if you drill a hole and use a piece of dowel as the wedge, but either way these are excellent tools.

The intersecting dowel design is in Fine Woodworking #70 and is my all time favorite. It uses the side acting captive wedge which is definitely the way to go.
I don't want to brag, but some of my wood is on its 2nd or 3rd project!
