well, I have some steel studs in the car, going to try my luck. No wonder nobody ever buys the steel studs from Home Depot, they don't really have an appropriate fastener.

I have done this, but used 1/4" plywood in the vertical plane, behind the GWB fascia, for some diaphragm action...

I'm getting there. Decided just to frame it out. I really like working with steel framing, turns out it doesn't help with measuring. But you can stretch a steel stud (by leaving gaps in the track), unlike the wood ones.
