Removing a Veritas plow plane handle?

Chuck is referring to a threaded insert that is epoxied into the wood handle.  A cap screw holds the assembly to the frame, and it has thread-locker on it which can be stubborn to loosen.  Heat will loosen it but heat is not a good idea around powder coat paint and lacquer wood finish.  I have to decide if all of this is worth the risks involved.

Can you use a soldering iron to heat the screw instead of a heat gun to heat the area? You would want to be applying an unscrewing force as the screw warms.

Alternatively, you could heat your Allen wrench good and hot and use it to apply heat to the screw.

I tried the soldering gun.  No joy.  Actually, the problem is mostly due to the Allen key twisting.  A 3/32 hex key in a socket wrench would be better.
