Well, I've done everything I can for this little plane short of re-doing the paint, the nickel plating and taking a wire wheel to it.

Nice job!

I've found that a lot of "simple, quick clean-up" jobs eventually turn into restorations.  It's not that they have to.  A plane will work fine even if there's some rust on the top of the iron or if the tote and knob are cracked and dirty.  But if I'm going to take the time to turn the plane into a regular user, by golly I'm going to take the time to set everything to rights, if only so that I don't cringe every time I pick the tool up.
