Jason, I believe you made the best choice for yourself. Both planes are excellent, however the Combo is nicer to hold for me as I have larger hands.
Cost differences aside, it is a better plane than the Small Plow since the depth stop is improved and there is one less step required to set it up for T&G. Plus it has the capacity for cross grain work.
I am not sure if you are aware that I have begun to put together user-orientated pictorials of the various joinery it can do. So far just two, dados and grooves ...
