I didn't want to disturb the handle in the head, since I think it is glued in. It shows no signs of movement.

I'm thinking before gluing trace the profile and waste a bunch of wood before the glue up. But whatever works for you, end result is all that matters.

I think I'll let nature color the handle before I refinish it. Wood repairs done.
