Now I am thinking about moving the whole 2 vise assembly to the left and just getting an additional 7-inch vise with a dog for the right side. It would need to be a 7-inch because the dog holes are only about 3 inches from the edge. That would give me a somewhat classic set up and who knows, I may come up with a need for the right angled vises in the future

Whatever it was intended for, it certainly is an interesting configuration on a work bench. Looks purpose built to me, but I have been known to be wrong before.

I am pretty sure that looks a lot like a bench setup I seen on a navel ships metals shop and it had stout metal legs and frame which were bolted to the floor but not positive.
