I use mine a lot.  Of course it will depend on what you make.  Even for things that I might use a BS for I get my SS out (well it's always ready to go).  I just made some push sticks - went the SS first.  A bit slower but nice smooth cuts.

A Hegner just came up locally on Facebook Marketplace for $500.

So tempting after reading this thread.

I just had a Hegner come up (1996 model, but looked brand new), but asking price of $800 seemed a little high. I would jump at a nice one at $500, presuming it’s at least the 18” model. I’ll keep looking!

Thanks.

This one is a 1997 model. Dunno whether it's multiple speeds.

Sounds like a nice deal.

Check out the series of maintenance/repair videos by Bob Brokaw.  I've never watched them, but they come highly recommended on the scroll saw forums.  One of the common issues with the Dewalt is wear on the bearings/bushings on the upper & lower blade arms & rear pivot points.  This causes problems with knocking and vibration.  I think these videos show you how to maintain and/or replace these bearings & bushings and make the saw run smoothly again.

If you are going down a river at 2 mph and your canoe loses a wheel, how much pancake mix would you need to shingle your roof?
