Tablesaw switch problem
#31
Well, it looks like I have more problems than I thought.....

I disconnected the white wire that came from the motor, at the switch.

I pushed the ON switch, and the motor starts.  I pushed the OFF switch and the motor stops.  And the motor sounds normal.

The white wire I disconnected is singed.

Sounds like you should look at how you have it wired.    How many wires do you have going in the motor from the switch, should be 2 hots and a ground.    Recheck your wiring.  What was changed after it was running before.    Look where that white wire is connected on the motor end.  Maybe some pictures of the wiring at each end between the motor and switch will help.    Roly
PDF of how it should be wired it is not wired like this is drawn.

Thanks so much for the PDF Roly.  As it turned out, the white wire from power was in the wrong spot.  It was on the jumper, one spot to the right.

I wired it correctly, and when I started it, it again didn't sound right so I shut it off. I then tried your previous idea of disconnecting one wire, plugging it in and trying the switch.  The ON switch does nothing, but when I push the manual contactor override lug, the motor hums but does not turn.

Check all the wiring as it is still wrong .  2 wires from the motor should be on 1/2  and 5/6 at the bottom plus the green wire to ground, on the motor end they are connected to L1 & L2.  Make sure these wires are from the motor and not power supply.
From the power cord  the black and white go to L1 and   L3  at the top and green to ground.
Check the cord connections again and make sure nothing is burnt again.
Make sure you are connecting the correct color wire from either the power cord or the motor, they are not interchangeable.   Roly
Suggest disconnecting the wires from both the motor and the power cord , assuming the greens are both on a ground terminal or connected together then connecting the black and white from the power cord first and then connect the two wires from the motor to the bottom.

That is how it is wired...now.  The motor is grounded and wires to 1/2 and 5/6 at the bottom.  From the power cord, the green is grounded and the black and white are attached at L1 and L3 as in the diagram.   Before you sent me the PDF, the power cord was attached at L1 and the post to the right of L3 which is a jumper, obviously in error.  The picture of the switch I included in this thread is the one I replaced it last year thinking it was bad but now I don't think it is.  I think I will hook it up and see if it works.

Thanks for bearing with me....

If you have a voltmeter  disconnect the motor leads from switch terminals 1/2 and 5/6  plug the cord in and check to see if you have any voltage, should not have until you press start .  Then you should have approx 240v between 1/2 and 5/6.  If not, do you have 120v across 1/2 and 5/6?   Roly

Thanks Roly.  Busy the next few days but I will definitely give that a try.

Trying to track down if anything is going on with any of the wiring feeding it. Roly
