I highly recommend you give it a go! I've used Dom's products several times now, and his handle template library is free on his website. I would recommend considering the saw handle maker's rasp from TFWW if you proceed.
I'm not as accomplished as Pedder, Norse Woodsmith, or others here, but here's an idea of the steps involved:
