Paste wax upgrade
#11
Just in case you thought your current paste wax was good enough... a car detailing company has made a new "hand-crafted" carnauba paste wax with a special container to keep the wax in peak condition. Given all the uses of paste wax for woodworkers, it's totally worth the cost for the upgrade from the $15 can to this... wait for it... $1500 can, right?

Hmm... can of paste wax... or a new lathe... this one's gonna be tough.

And I thought Renaissance was expensive!

The writeup says the wax is for light colored cars, then under specs it says "great on any color paintwork". Hmm. Think I'll pass.

18 KG pure carnuba wax: $238.00 + shipping

That is very close to 40 pounds of wax.

http://www.bulknaturaloils.com/bulk-carn...ax-organic

Just package it in Ball canning jars. They are airtight.

The ad does not seem to say what the size of the package is, but Simonize Original paste wax is sold in 7 ounce tins and I would assume it is about the same.

So figuring $30.00 for incoming shipping ($268.00) plus $1.00 per jar with lid, your cost for a 7 ounce jar is about $4.00. (Wax alone costs $2.97; the yield from one 18kg container is 90 packages of 7 ounces each).

And here is more information than you ever need on the subject of waxes. http://www.cyberlipid.org/wax/wax0001.htm#2

That company is selling the packaging. Is the packaging worth $11.00?

I don't think so. Go to their website. All the waxes they sell are outrageously expensive. The cheapest ones are in the $99-$125 range. I did a bit more research and it seems their products are highly regarded. I would guess from what I saw in postings that their targeted consumer is folks detailing show cars and car museums.

For furniture, yes. I was referring to car museums.
