How are you going to bring yourself to use them?

I have that same set. But no cardboard box, and it was missing the 13. Oh, and the 16 was cut in half, to fit in a lectric drill.
Nice score Rich.

I gotta ask, What else was in that time capsule?

I got them from a guy who resold them to me, but he said that all of the owner's tools were equally well kept, apparently he was a model maker, very fastidious. Planes, chisels saws, you name it, but I didn't see any of those.

And I have no problem with using tools, heck, we all buy new tools and use them, this is just an extension; and I know I'll never use them up. I actually don't collect tools, the only multiples I have in my personal user kit are three #5s set up for different work, two #4s set up differently and maybe a few block planes. I do have one T11 #3 that I don't use and always hesitate to sell, as it is incredibly clean and I just like looking at it.

Thanks to everyone else for your kind words.

Very nice, what vintage do you suppose they are? Those metal clips in the wooden box were not on all of them were they?

Well, no zip code on the brochure so I'm figuring early 60s or late 50s. The box is the same as all Irwin boxes, all had the clips to hold the bits. It's just a great set, I'm tickled.

This site shows almost identical set (w/o cardboard box) circa 1957...

I took some pics of my only "collector" plane, the T11 #3 I spoke of earlier, so I thought I'd share some 100 year old tool porn. 99.9% japanning, rosewood as good as it gets for this vintage plane. Has signs of considerable use, but someone took really good care of this plane, I found it purposely covered in axle grease in a paper bag on a shelf in a garage, and when I removed all the gunk, this is what appeared:

I can see why you don't want to part with this one and enjoy just looking at it! It's pristine...what we call vintage cars in the midwest as a genuine "barn find"

Very, very nice...Thanks for sharing with the rest of us...
