Worksharp sanding disks

Has anyone used these as a replacement to the work sharp sanding discs.

Any 6" PSA sanding disk can be used, you just need to punch the appropriate hole in the center.

Yes any of the 6" PSA discs can work. Look for the best buy.

For higher grit discs I go to SIS web


I go here for courser grits actually your more standard grits. 100 for < 30 bux. The aluminum oxide don't load as badly too. Hint. These are just thinner than the brand the Worksharp gouges you for. When you put them on, make sure they are dead flat on the disk. If there is a bubble you can shear them off, no biggie, just a wasted disc.

No doubt they will work, I may even try a pack. But those Micro Mesh discs that Steve N linked are now my favorite. They are incredibly well made, and last a long time. BTW, I bought one of these to make the hole in the discs and it really works well.

Fred that might work, but I have been just putting them on the disc, then taking a needle point Exacto knife and scratching out a small x dead center. It's been working like a charm. The little bolt thingie on the handle pops right through, and I've not had any tear out in about 20 changes.

I tend not to try to get the paper to last for weeks now, seeing they are so much less expensive then they had been. I can easily say the sharpening is much easier. Especially the quick touch ups....zip zip and you are done.

No problem John. I've tried to add the links every time I see a thread about Worksharp. The ones they market are great, but so expensive. You'll find dealing with either of those links I posted to be a pleasure to deal with, plus the one OP had at Amazoo is very good too, just cost a spec more. But of the three they will easily be fastest based on standard shipping. Any of them can accommodate next day, but ohhhhh baby I don't wanna pay that bill.

I love my WS. I use it a lot. I leave the leather disc on most of the time. When I pull out a chisel I do a quick pass.

Steve - I'm sure that SIS sells good products. I was looking for higher grit disks plus lower grit disks. Their stockage of lower grit disks was "zero". I only wanted 3ea of 3 different higher grit disks. Total order was $21. Since my order was less than $40, there was an $18 handling free plus a $12 shipping fee! I passed needless to say. That's rediculus.

Well you are talking about 9 discs of higher grit. Through Worksharp you get 3 sort of fine discs for $29.99 plus tax, and possibly shipping.

Though I would suggest to order more than 9 discs, buying your 9 sounds like it will still be cheaper than Worksharp. Please add to the discussion if you find a source where bottom line prices are better.

Not sure if you know others on this site, but in the past to overcome such charges several members have gone together to make a buy, whoever receives them sends them out snail mail for cheeep to the others. That only works if you believe this is a community though.
