I checked off an item on my ToDo list today. This bookshelf is 27 x 12 x 40 inches tall and fits into an awkward little corner in my Granddaughter's room.
I enjoy projects like this that are quick and cheap to build.
Materials = 1 sheet of 3/4" oak ply from the Home Depot, some scraps of oak from my leftover pile for the trim and face frame, and a can of Minwax Polyshades.
Bottom trim has a simple 45 degree chamfer made on the table saw:
Shelves are adjustable:
Simple molding is made with one pass of a router:
The top is plywood wrapped in oak trim:

I really like quick & cheap - but I really like nice & functional even better. I think you scored on all of them.
I also know how much fun it is to build stuff for grandchildren - sweet!
