The tenon saw kit (made by Isaac Smith of Blackburn Tools) that I got from my WoodNet Secret Santa is finally complete! It only took me five months to go from pile-of--hardware to finished saw.
The whole story is here on my blog. But here are a few photos.
Here's the original kit as it came to me.
Working on the handle. Of course I chose spalted pecan. (One of these days I'm going to do a big group-shot of all the tools I've made using the stuff.) I used one of Dominic's handle templates--the D-4 for the 14" saw, since this saw is 14" long. I like the way my most of my other Disston saws are hung, so I figured I'd stick with what my hands are used to.
Saw sharpening is a necessary evil for me. I do it outside on strict orders from my wife, who can't stand the noise. At least it gets me out in the open air.
And the finished saw. It cuts very smoothly and quickly. I look forward to using this saw for quite some time. <img src="/ssl_proxy.php?url=/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowsmile.gif[/img]
