Excalibur blade cover

I will be making a couple prototypes this weekend. I don't foresee any issues with it though. If that is the case, a week and I could have another half dozen or so finished out.
I don't want to nail down the pricing yet until I see for sure they will manufacture as I think they will.
More than a hundred and less than one fifty is what I am thinking. I buy the prototype stuff from Mcmaster Carr though, so they are not cheap. I may be able to buy a bit of bulk material else where a little cheaper.
I will also design in a roller on the rear just like on the front. I think that will be useful.

It is a pretty nice lathe. Yours is pretty cool too. Smithy is coming out with one in the same price range as the Tormach with more bang for buck I think, but I am satisfied with this one. 


BTW, I am shipping the first two Excalibur covers today. I will have more to ship next week.

Woodcraft sells them, but currently out of stock.

There is an old old old style one on Ebay that they are asking way too much for.
You could make that whole frame for less than $100.00 yourself. Plus a can of yellow spray paint.

Tools-Plus also sells on eBay, and it's $15.00 less than ordering through their store. Go figure how they are willing to charge less on eBay and then pay eBay seller fees? Anyway, order placed and I should have everything in place early next week.

Here is that image I mentioned I would post.
Not a lot different than the first one I made, but a few upgrades I think.

I can see where the fewer visual obstructions would be advantageous over the original Excalibur hood.

That and the enclosed front end. I never understood why Excalibur left the front open. That is the direct line for dust slinging off the blade. 
The rest of the geometry is basically the same.

I should have come back and updated this...I got my basket quite a couple of weeks back and I'm pleased as punch with it. I'd post a pic of it on my saw, except my saw is disassembled waiting for it's new home to be ready...once we get settled (which may be several months yet) I'll post a pic.....but there's little doubt it's a big improvement over the factory basket.
