weatherwood stains

it is not cheap...... I was skeptical at first but no longer.   I just used it on an entry door and it has met all the expectations of the clients and two designers who have seen it.

 I think I would look into this product.  Sounds like a much better idea than leaving outside in the elements unless you want to wait a season to see if the end result is what you want.  (don't think it will be)  Roly
