Most of the haul for the other weekend was cherry ( I thought..)

   
I grabbed the one 6/4 slab..hauled it to the shop to make four leg blanks..

Bandsaw tried to follow the grain a bit....

   
"We have ways"   Jointed the sawn edges smooth, got rid of the saw marks

   
Worn out, soaked clean through....took a break for a while.....

Ok, break's over.   Selected a rather plain-looking 4/4 x 6 and went to the shop. 

Needed a few aprons, and what was left would make a couple stretchers.    Again, bandsaw to rip to width....then a mitre saw to cross cut the smaller pieces.

   
And got out some smaller planes to remove the saw marks..

   
But, there was a "problem" with this plain looking wood....when I planed away the saw marks..

   
What I thought was just planer marks..

   
Turned out to be a bit of Tiger stripe Cherry?
  Curly Maple?

   
I think I will have about....three fingers worth and call it a day..

Yep, it looks like everything you got there is maple and curly maple. It is pretty easily identifiable by looking at the edges of the boards.

Are you talking about the 'sour grain' ?

I can't complain too much....since the stuff was FREE
 

1/2 of a pickup truck load, the other 1/2 went to the driver.   Fellow was merely cleaning out his off-cut piles.  
 

Will dig through the stack when I get  some better lighting today, and see how many more such scrap boards are in that pile I brought home

Well, needed to cut the front and back aprons to a better length, so..

   
26" long, counting tenons...

   
Yeah, these things....1/4" thick, for a 3/4" deep mortise.

Details, details.

   
Stretcher that sits near the bottom of the legs.   All four corners got a bead.  The aprons?

   
Only get one bead.   A smooth plane to do a bit of clean up.

After Lunch, there MAY be some chopping done..

Ok, that was ...special..
 
Chisels were to chop a few mortises

   
Had aprons that needed a few.  Once the top of a leg was done, I drug out the Stanley 45, had details to do

   
Used the same #23 bead cutter.   just went down two faces to a corner bead. 
Stretcher needed a smaller mortise..

   
And fitted

   
Not sure why I did a big dry fit..

   
Other than to see how much trouble this will be to glue and clamp up...might be a bit ugly to do all at one shot


Maybe do a few sub-assemblies
like each end first?  Less hassle
?

Have the front legs done, need to get the back legs done tomorrow.   Maybe a glue up, or two later?
