A project in Maple

Had quite a bit of Maple "leftovers"  from the last couple of builds...

   
And a glued up panel..

   
Decided to make a "Blanket  Chest" out of the pile..

   
Ripped a few down to make a few stiles and rails...

   
Glued a few other boards up into two panels.  I could then cut into two blanks per panel, to make a few raised panels

   
To go with the frame parts.  
Stay tuned....front of the chest was worked on today.....wasn't "pretty" but....

trying to get the top and bottom rails fitted....

   
Mitresaw to do a few shoulder cuts.....cheek cuts were done on the bandsaw..
 

   
Stanley#45 to plough a groove or two..then chop a mortise or two..

   
Did a few of these dry fits....and found out the panels were not quite right...1/8" off in length and width, and a touch out of square.  Photo is after correcting that issue, and re-doing the raised panel bevels..
 

   
Until the grooves would fit, again. 

Maybe today, I can get a few things done?  
Hope to spread a bit of glue around,too...we'll see.

Chopped a few mortises, and made a few glue ups today..

   
Had to use the end vise as an extra set of hands...

Had to flatten a couple panels, after they had been trimmed to size 

   
On the large glue up, I added pins to hold things better..

   
Back started hurting,  after just 3 hours in the shop, again.   Had a little better luck, today
 

Need to haul a board down to the shop...tomorrow
  Maybe I can get  the rest of the case's sides done

Not boring!   Afraid most of us can't keep up with your speed.   Nice projects I must say.

I think three hours in the shop is just about right for a session. 

You don't put any finish on those panels before framing them?

I hate your guts.
  Only because you have more motivation than me.
 Good job on the build.  Maybe you need to open a youtube channel and video your builds?

Pine floor boards,  blanket chest is over 20 year old.

panel was raised..

   
Stiles cut to length and width.    A foot profile was made to match the existing ones...
Used these to determine the sizes of the rails....length and width...

   
Set a jig or two, for the Stanley No.45 to mill a bunch of grooves, to house the panel..

   
And cut a few tenons...

   
That backsaw had other chores to do.   Shoulder cuts were done on the Langdon Mitre Box....cheek cuts were via the bandsaw.

Came back after Supper, chopped a few mortises,  and did the glue up.  Let that sit for the day...

Need to raise the other panel,  cut a few tenons, and chop a few more mortises.   Maybe Wed.  I can have the last end panel glued up? 

Then some assembly....we'll see how things go,  stay tuned
