It's a really nice board. I built that same one many years ago, gave it to my daughter. I'm gonna post a picture of her playing chess with my granddaughter.
If women don't find you handsome, at least let 'em find you handy!

Very nice. Not sure I am brave enough to do the chamfered edges, squeeze out would kill a beautiful board.

This is not a structural joint. A little glue painted on the bottom of the square is plenty to stick it to the plywood.
