So I got a pickup load of oak and while she's in the hospital I've been making sawdust.
The strips holding the insert in place haven't been finished so they don't match the color of the door yet. (had to resize pix in PS so it looks a little off-square)
Hope she gets to come home soon to see it.

I second being very careful with that lock set work. Yikes. The though of cutting into something that nice makes me cringe.
