Anybody sand their own floors?

Drum sanders were all I ever used. I hated them, but they were effective. If you’re worried about making divots, practice with some fine grit paper to start. At least that way, your gouges won’t be too deep.

One very important thing to check is how the wheels on a drum sander work. I rented one once where one of the wheels would not perform correctly. Could not do a decent job with it Long time ago so I dont remember what was wrong with it but after I took it back and they fixed the wheel I was able to do a good job. It took me longer than it might have because I started with finer paper than I probably should have used. but I was afraid of screwing it up. Used an orbital along the walls and a scraper in the corners.
