Faux barnwood look

Not my usual cuppa tea, but "customer" is looking for something like this for some picture frames

Anyone used any of these "instant aged barnwood" stains (or others) and have comments, pros / cons, which woods they work or don't work well on,  or other experiences with them?   Daughter wants a couple frames done something like this.

• Varathane Aged Barrel Premium Fast Dry Interior Wood Stain

These results aren't very gray, but it did result in a very "aged" look.

Thanks.   I have heard of this before but not tried it and kind of looking for a "out of the can" solution, since there seem to be a bunch these days.
