I have an exterior outlet that gets 6 hours of direct sunlight during the day. Of course in Vegas it can get pretty hot in the summer. I’m looking for a GFCI that can take this type of heat, or maybe some kind of an enclosure that might give it some protection. The cord for the landscape lighting is plugged into it otherwise I’d use one of those spring closed covers.
There is a cover available that can be closed and still have a cord plugged in, but it’s clear and I wonder about heat build up in there.

Make a box to fit over it with an opening in the bottom for your landscape lighting cord. Or, replace the existing box with a deep one made to have the recepticle recessed to make room for something to be plugged in with a cover.

That's something I would have never thought would pose a problem. I can see where moisture from having the cover open might cause a trip, but a quick Google didn't show me anything about sunlight/heat.

Get the one with the clear cover and pint it with a more reflective color.

You could add a new outlet on the interior of the house that feeds the exterior location. Then put the GFCI outlet inside and a standard outlet outside.

An exterior receptacle should have a cover over it anyway.

This one does, but you can’t close the cover with anything plugged in.
