Miter Saw Dust Collection Question

I have not tried this guy's approach, but I found it fascinating.  And very scientific.  I intend to implement it when I get a chance.

Basically, he catches it all before you need massive air flow to capture it.

Brent,

I built a box similar after watching his video and have not gotten similar results.

Couple things I did differently that could be effectively reducing my performance. One, mine is about an inch behind the face of the fence, two my box is wider than the opening in the fence creating some turbulence, three I’m using a larger diameter hose from the shop vac so velocity’s may be lower than his.

Here's the setup in my shop, a Rousseau hood with a 1hp Shop Fox DC. It catches the majority of the heavier chips but leaves some of the finer dust flying. My unscientific analysis guesses it gets 95+% of the dust. Bought the rolling stand so I could roll it up the steps in the bulkhead to use outside or in the garage. It's too tall too fit thru the door with the saw mounted. Go frigging figure.
