Video is pretty well done for a rookie at it, Jim. It sure doesn't hurt to have gorgeous craft like that behind you in the intro!!

I like your jigs and think you are on to something. Have you come up with a way to make squaring the blade in the jig easier?

I have a feeling that just using a set of machinists parallel bars will make setting the blades properly a snap.

Finally watched the video(s). Was great to finally "meet" you. If you did the editing yourself then you are truly a multi-talented individual. My son, who builds diesel powered micro and not-so-micro marine generator sets has taken up video in a large way and constantly complains about the editing time. Loved the backdrop to the video - had me drooling at points.

I suspect that the hook to the Tormek may make it patentable but I am not an IP lawyer let alone any kind of lawyer. If one of the forum guys who is an IP specialist has not gotten a hold of you yet, then find one for yourself. Even a copyright may hold some value. I agree that you need an idea of market size because it is my understanding that pursuing a patent claim to a successful conclusion is about a $25K problem. I suppose (don't know) that you could advertise it as patent pending though. It may well be that Tormek will contact you at some point with an interest in buying the jig rights so you will want as much protection as you can reasonably get.

Well done!
Thanks,  Curt

Thanks everyone for your comments. I have to give credit to my son for the video editing and posting it up on YouTube. I can do shop things all day long but I am helpless when it comes to the computer. If I can't do it on the iPad, it doesn't get done.

Jim,

Great video. The jigs look very promising. The thing I like the most is the simplicity. Being able to go from the Tormek to the stones without switching jigs is excellent. I don't have a Tormek, do have the Tormek grinder jig on a CBN wheel that are ready to go.

Three questions.

1. Is the angle on the stones higher than the angle coming off the Tormek? Derek talks about the distinction between a micro-bevel at the same angle as the hollow grind and a secondary bevel at a slightly higher angle. Just wonder if you built in a secondary (higher) bevel angle.

2. How hard would it be to do a cambered blade? The double wheels would seem to be very stable, so I wonder if there's enough side-to-side play to be able to follow the camber.

3. This has nothing to do with the jigs, but when I have chisel with a chip, I always grind back past the chip first and then establish the bevel. Any reason you didn't do that. Is it just because you're spoiled by the fact that the edge won't burn on the Tormek?

Thanks for taking the time to do the video and put in the work to create these jigs.
