Veritas Shop Knife - My Impression
#8
I like it. Being a sucker for new knives, I bought one on a whim (also got me to the $40 minimum for free shipping.) I was skeptical about the big knob right where you'd think your fingers would want to go. Not! As it turns out the knob seems to slightly enhance my grip or else it has no effect. What I really like is that the index finger goes over the blade for more pressure and that the 4th and 5th (pinkie) fingers wrap around the tail for the ultimate in control.

Suggestion for Rob Lee: You need to sell a sheath for this thing.

This knife is for marking lines against a rule. The longer the line the more useful it is. It's not (for me anyway) as useful for marking pins from the tail board. A conventional marking knife allows easy switching from bevel to bevel. I've tried holding this knife upside down - which works surprisingly well but it looks awkward even though it doesn't feel near as bad as it looks. Takes about 2 seconds to switch the blade flat from one orientation to the other - and I'm slow.

Comes with an Optional PM-V11 blade which means the edges will last quite a while. Recommended.

Here is the knife
Thanks,  Curt

I don't see an optional blade for that knife.

That replacement blade is tempting...you could make your own knife around a nice PM-V11 steel blade.
