Small saw question
#9
I'm not much of a fan of push saws, I mostly use the Japanese saws with my work, but I found a nest of them this past summer and this little one is interesting to me. Can anyone enlighten me on it's maker?

Thanks for the help.

That handle looks a lot like some Bay State saws that I have but I don't think that is definitive ID.

Can't help much, but it's a nice little panel saw that will clean up nicely.

First thing I noticed was the board. I would love to have both.

That is a left over piece of Sapele, looking for a need.
Anyone know anything about the etch. What the the whole etch might have said?

From the photo of the etch it looks like Electric 81 - so it must be a Porter Cable

Seriously - can you make out any more with the saw in hand - maybe with raking light?

The etch photo was taken outside angled to best advantage, that was the best of several tries. I'll work on it a bit today and see if I can get it better.

Here are some more pics of the etch after a bit of sanding with 600 grit.

The oval shape is a belt with the buckle at the bottom. It says 'CAST STEEL' on the lower half of the belt. I have no idea what it says on the upper part of the belt. The word over the 81 starts with an E then ? ECTRIC. I'm guessing ELECTRIC. Still would love to know more.
