The Makita 9820-2 knife sharpener I just bought has a problem. The plastic housing has plastic boss areas where the 2 height adjusting posts slide in,and has nut retainers moulded into them. The nut retainers have broken off and height shafts can't be locked.
Other than a $97 housing, any fixes for this?
I'm thinking of attaching nuts to the outside of the housing. Not sure if epoxy would hold.
Maybe a bar thru bolted to the housing, with a threaded hole in each end for the lock screws.
Maybe fill the area where the nut goes, with JB Weld, then drill and tap. I think I might try this, and then if it doesn't work, another idea.
Any known cure?

I long for the days when Coke was a soft drink, and Black and Decker was a quality tool.
