I've got a 12v makita drill with a vix bit stuck in the hex only chuck. Suspect the wire engagement is broken, no release seems possible. Any tricks? Maybe just single purpose it for the vix bit....

clamp that bit in your bench vise and then get a prybar in between things. It'll come

I've unstuck a few bits by giving them a couple taps with a hammer. With a vix bit, set an adjustable wrench tight to the sliding barrel sides and hit the wrench so the hammer taps are directed against the solid body of the bit.
