Woodcraft has this Nova G3 chuck package on sale for $149:

Is that a decent deal?

Thanks,

Yes that is a good deal IMHO and I wanted to get 3 of them to use on the small lathe I teach from, but I will teach using a Faceplate until I get them.

I do believe from the years of not having a chuck that 95% of all work can be done between centers or on a faceplate.

Good luck and I should say there is a learning curve when first using them.

Sorry I mess up the first post. Did not see all.
Looks like a deal.
Make sure if you get the insert from Woodcraft that it comes in a red Teknatool box. They still sell their own knockoff with lots of runout as far as I know. Per the local Woodcraft the larger size inserts are not packaged in a box but in a bag because they are larger. Hey, the OUTSIDE is the same. It takes a larger package to hold a 1" washer with a 1/2" hole than a 1" washer with a 1/4" hole?

Looks good to me. Same as I paid ~25 years ago for the Tommy bar original. If you have old iron with 1"8 RH and 1"8LH outboard, get the ITNS insert to option outboard. If you have 1 1/8 thread, get the ILNS with lock capability if you reverse or plan to in the future.

Pin jaws would be my first purchase beyond the kit. VERY useful.
Better to follow the leader than the pack. Less to step in.

I would be putting the chuck on this Craftsman Lathe I picked up recently:

The thread is 3/4-16 so I definitely need an insert.

Thanks for the response!

Thanks Mike,

Good info there, but the subject package includes three chucks in addition to the standard one. The Record is less expensive originally, but all the extras make the G3 more attractive to me.

I think the $149 is a good deal. I bought a G3 a few years ago for about $100 without the additional jaws and love it.
My one regret about the purchase is not buying the package with the extra jaws.
It should be a good match for that lathe.
