Vega lathe color???
#11
I'm starting to recondition a Vega lathe, a 1553 (if that makes any sense)

Is there a close color match to the factory color???

It looks like one of these:

Scrape off a chip and take it to a auto paint store for them to match it. Try to spray it, it will look great.

one of the smaller dust panels may be the best bet for a trip to the color store, but I'm wondering if it's too faded/rusty

I'd love to spray it with my HVLP sprayer, but tight quarters and cold weather may prevent that

Sorry no help here but that is a nice long lathe. How do you like it? Is it a Reeves drive? How big is the motor and have you turned anything with it yet?

PS - Give me a few more hours and I will think up a few more questions.

Haven't turned anything yet -- too busy digging bugs out of holes and getting rust off of surfaces

It looks like a variable speed pulley on the motor but the tailstock only has a standard two groove pully ( and one of them is broken )

More later as rust gets removed and paint applied

Yipes!!

Mine's only the standard length and that's plenty long for me

And Rustoleum "Almond" is a near-match for the color

I would love to have that when I get enough to rent a building so anyone and anytime can come and learn to turn or woodworking. We now have $670 in our GoFunMe account.

I also love that Vega duplicator you have on the floor to.
I might sneak in there to nab it from you for several years.
