My daughter asked me to build her hubby a display case for his rowing medals - so she could give it to him as a Christmas present. She already had an idea of what she wanted: around 48" wide and 24" high that would mount on a wall. She also wanted me to incorporate an oar either inside or outside. Finally she wanted to pay me for all the materials because it would be a gift from her.
In early November Chattanooga was hosting their Head of the Hooch and I went to watch Ben row in the Master's division. While there I took some pictures of his boat and oars as I might be able to use them.
Heres what I came up with:
Above his Oar Blades and below the Handles
The case is Walnut with maple ply for the back that holds the oar assembly. The oars were carved by me out of aromatic cedar (softwood - yeah).
And with some of his medals in it:

I also built a stand for the case because he is in the Air Force and moves regularly. That way they don't have to mount it on a wall if they're somewhere a short time.
Thanks for looking,
Joel
