Looking for Project Picture
#11
I was at a buddy's house last night & we got to talking about turning. I tried to show him one of the most impressive pierced turnings I've ever seen, but was unable to find a picture of it online.

It was a 5-6" diameter vase about 16-18" tall, turned thin, and was massively pierced. The entire thing was branches of the trees intertwined and it was a scene of zebras gathered around and drinking from a muddy stream. It was colored to show the water, but only on the inside; outside was plain. You couldn't see this unless you looked really close - it truly gave the illusion of being colored on the outside. It was pieced and carved 360 degrees. Believe it was named 'Watering Hole' or something similar.

I thought for certain I'd dropped a bookmark in my 'Inspirational Wood' folder, but it's not there. After more than an hour of googling, I managed to find a few hundred pierced vessels, ads, porn, and random completely unrelated crap. Tried other search engines with no luck. I do not believe it was posted here (not that it would matter as threads here are temporary), or even done by a woodnet member.

Does anybody recognize the project I'm talking about & happen to have a link to a picture???

From your description, I was thinking Binh Pho, but I guessed wrong.

That is an amazing piece of work. Aside from the artistic vision, the technical skill displayed is simply amazing. I have done a very little piercing and it is so easy to destroy a piece before it's ever done. Simply holding the piece to work on it can break it to pieces.

I wish they showed multiple angles of the pieces so we could really see how it was done.

Amazing work!
