War and Peace

I was just watching the recent BBC production of War and Peace.

At about the 7:10 hr mark Prince Bolkonsky (the elder, the grumpy old man) is seen mounting a piece of wood on his treadle lathe, that is sitting in the parlor.
Spot oh authentic for the period. Nobles in German, Scandinavian and Russian areas took up turning as a avocation.

Of course -they- didn't have to clean up the wood chips.
Making sawdust mostly, sometimes I get something else, but that's more accident then design.

The things you see when you are a wood turner. I see wood piles everywhere I, but can not bring home and wish I could.

As of this time I am not teaching vets to turn. Also please do not send any items to me without prior notification.  Thank You Everyone.

It is always the right time, to do the right thing.

Peter the Great was supposedly a pretty good turner.
Better to follow the leader than the pack. Less to step in.

Wouldn't that make him Peter the Pretty Good?
The tools some of those nobles used were works of art in their own right.
Ivory handled dovetail saw anyone?
