Which router bit for blood groove?

What kind of router bit do you use to make a blood groove in a cutting board?
Thanks for any help.

I use a core box bit, normally 1/2", but on smaller cutting boards i've used 3/8". I use an adjustable jig and guide template when i do it.

Core box here too. I also use a guide and template. My one piece of advice would be to make sure to do one final clean up pass, as it can burn going around corners, transitioning thru the grain.

+1 - core box bit...

When I did mine I used a piece of MDF and a template to make my juice groove-- the template I double stick taped to the board with psa tape (make sure to use enough) and I added a couple of clamps which I would move as they got in the way of the router.

Now if I were doing it, I'd probably throw it on my CNC

my CNC----

Is that a stealth gloat ???
There is a fine line between woodworking and insanity - sometimes I am not sure which side of the line I am on.

Would you still use the core box bit?
I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left.

yep... kindof a stealth gloat (I recently got a 25 x 25 Next Wave with a 1.75 hp porter cable router on it)

And yes, I'd still use the same core box bit... just program several passes, a few almost to full depth and then a clean up pass... just like I would do with a router.

I measured the "juice groove" (sounds better than "blood groove") on my commercially produced cutting board. A half inch diameter core box bit would make that groove.
