Evolution of a Box Design, or How Not to Build a Box (long)
#14
Okay, here is what Boxcar 2.0 looks like:

It is roughly the same size and made from the same woods as the prototype. The bottom of the tray and of the box are both more crotch cherry (solid for the tray, veneered for the bottom) and are texture carved as on the top.

The bottom is much cleaner:

For some reason these pictures came out too yellow - the top is cherry - but I think this version is a keeper:

I missed this back in March, but I am up-to-date now. The first box is very nice. At first it seemed too long but the size did grow on me. I liked the shape of the feet on the first box but as you mentioned the visible seam was a distraction.

The carved surfaces do really highlight the attractive figure of the wood. The "invisible" rails on the second box are a nice touch. You obviously enjoy the journey of creating!

Thank you for sharing, as usual, I have learned something again.

Funny. Now that you've taken the suggestion about the feet, I like the first bottom better. Maybe try the separate feet as before, but the feet are cherry?
