I'm thinking about making a couple of salt and pepper sets. Packard woodworks and Craft supply carry's them in various sizes. Question: What is your preference in terms of suppliers and why? Thanks

I got mine from WoodTurningz.com he has a kit with 3 sizes of shafts so you can make any length for $9.50 . he has many others at good prices.

Craft supply, I use the 8", If you plan on making a salt grinder, make sure you get the salt grinding mechanism, you can't use the pepper grinder for salt. They have them in various sizes. I am not saying Craft supply is better, it is just the US supplier I use. Good luck and lets see some pics when you are done.

I do believe that is the supplier for Craft supply. They are top quality mechanisms, I have heard of many mill makers who buy from Chef specialties and have high praise for the product.

I like these from Craft Supply. They are ceramic, will grind salt, pepper and spices. I buy the longest shaft and cut them to size.

One interesting detail on the Chef Specialties kits is the stamp on the bar that crosses the bottom of grinder on the finished mill. It reads "Made in USA" and I have been surprised how many folks who have looked at my mills have commented favorably on that.
