sanding between coats of maloof poly/oil
#6
Hi all,

Just finished applying the first coat of maloof poly/oil to a cherry cabinet. Hoping the finishing experts here can tell me the correct procedure to follow before adding additional coats, especially if I need to sand between coats.

Thanks

I have not used that finish, but I have used maloof style varnish/oil mix and I will burnish with gray scotchbrite pads.

Last few coats get applied with a white scotchbrite pad. The finish sets up more quickly as you apply additional coats.

Do you mean you use green scotchbrite pads instead of sandpaper between coats? and the white pads instead of cloth?
I've never used them before

Yes, but not the green ones, the gray ones. They manufacture several colors.

Maroon
Green
Gray/Grey (depending on what side of the pond)
White

I know the white is the finest and the gray is equivalent to 0000 steel wool. Not sure about the green or maroon but they are courser.
