Preperation for refinishing front door
#4
The finish (oil based) on the exterior side of our beautiful 10 year old front door, solid core, is beginning to fade.  I have a 3 day window of 80 degree temp so plan to refinish the exterior side with GF High Performance.   The door faces north and is protected from sun and rain by a 6' wide porch.
Question:  Should I sand lightly by hand with 400 grit to get better adhesion?  High Performance dries quickly so I'll remove the door, lay it on saw horses and go at it.  Think I can get 2 coats on and the door rehung by night fall.

Yes, but I would not use HP Poly for an exterior application.  GF says "It is suitable for interior woodwork, case goods, furniture, and cabinets."

GF Exterior 450 would be a much better choice and will dry just as quickly.
