Where are you guys getting your sharpening files? Everywhere I look seems to be out of stock of at least one size or another (other than Nicholson), for some time now.
Just getting started with saw sharpening, so it could be poor hunting, but for example I can't seem to find one of the recommended brands in XX Slim on Amazon, Lee Valley, etc.
Just a noob issue or is there a secret?

Here's my standard answer to any question with "file" in it: Call Harry Boggs.
Boggs Tools
Call. Tell him what you want. Buy 3 or 5, just so the goods cost as much as shipping. Be prepared for sharp, very sharp.

Lee Valley shows the 5" XXSlim as out of stock until November. Bahco brand.

Shows out of stock, but call to determine possible restocking schedule

Contact for stock, web page implies they are in stock (Bahco)

However this is in the UK and you would have quite a bit tied up in shipping. The seem to have stock.
I'm finding several sources (or could be the same source selling under different names) for Simonds branded files in XX-Slim. However when bopping over to their web sites, the product description is a bit convoluted. Enough so that I can't tell if they really have the files or are just trying to generate hits on their web site.

While smaller than a 5" XXL, Rio Grande carries
Vallorbe and
Freidrich Dick needle files. I have been using them on fine dovetail saws and have found them to be of excellent quality. They carry both files in several different cuts. I found the No. 2 cut best for the Vallorbe and a No. 3 cut best for the Freidrich Dick.
