Trim contractors used to take great pride in their work, tight joints, crisp corners, trim that didn't come off the wall in 6 months. It was their identity, their signature. Now they use motorized chop boxes where cuts on mostly MDF trim have unsightly gaps sometimes up to an inch wide, which they cover with Bondo before painting the trim, so thus, both Speed Merchants (doing it as quickly as possible with no care for the accuracy of their cuts), because they know they will double back and Bondo in the unsightly gaps, and then the entire works will be painted over. So if the trim in the house looks good in a new home today, it's because good painters came behind the trim guys, and repaired their cheap fixes, and made a nice surface before they painted. Which is often not the case, and why anyone with a personal history of having done good trim work, gasps and shakes their head walking through a new home most of the time. Quality trim guys are seasoned vets, who have years of experience. Most trim guys today are high school or just older, needed a job, had no experience and were shown how to by a lead Man, or a boss who just wanted to lay down as much trim, as quickly as possible.
